Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to retake my CPCS tests to get a replacement Red Card?

No. If your card is lost, broken, or stolen, your test pass records remain on file and a replacement is issued without any retesting.

Will my replacement card have the same expiry date?

Yes. The replacement Red Card retains the same expiry date as your original card. Your 2-year window to achieve your NVQ is not affected.

What information do I need to apply?

You will need your full name, date of birth, CPCS registration number if known, and the reason for replacement.

My Red Card is close to expiry — can I still get a replacement?

Yes, a replacement can still be issued. However, if your card is about to expire, you should also speak to us about your NVQ progress and options for upgrading to a Blue Card.

What if I don't have my CPCS registration number?

We can attempt to locate your record using your name and date of birth. Provide as much detail as possible in the application form.

Is the Red Card renewable?

No. The Red Trained Operator Card is not renewable. To continue working on CPCS sites after it expires, you must complete your NVQ and upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card.

How long does it take to receive my replacement card?

Replacement cards are typically dispatched within approximately 2 weeks of the application being submitted.
